Arrange your references early so your supporting evidence is ready to submit.

Choose people who know your work

Your two referees must be able to comment on the scope and level of your professional practice. Friends and relatives are not acceptable.

The references form asks for your line manager or head of department as one referee, normally people registered as Clinical Technologists or Clinical Scientists. Referees with another professional status should record it on the form.

References should normally be UK-based. Read the References form (PDF) for the full requirements and the statement of support.

I am seeking work or have a job offer

The form permits a former employer if you do not have a current employer. If you have a job offer, it asks for your prospective employer as a referee and a copy of the offer. Contact the RCT if you cannot meet the stated requirements.

Use the right signature for each document

Requirements differ between routes and documents.

Primary route

The references form requires handwritten signatures. Your qualification certificate and organisation chart must be signed by both referees.

Equivalence route

Both referees must initial every line on every page of the evidence matrix. Certificates, organisation chart and every page of your job description must be initialled by your referees.

“Referee” and “proposer” refer to the people supporting your application. Some existing RCT forms use the word “proposer”.
