A career break is an extended period away from work, after which you return to the same scope of practice.
This also applies if you move overseas to work in your current scope of practice. The RCT operates only in the UK, so registration cannot be used to show your competence and professional standing while you work abroad.
A career change is time away from your current scope of practice for further training and development, paid or unpaid, before you return to work in a different scope of practice.
If you change your scope of practice, your updated evidence matrix must map to your portfolio, and your portfolio must cover every criterion in the matrix.
Before a career break or career change, read the policy and complete the relevant form below. Send it by email or by post to The Register of Clinical Technologists, Fairmount House, 230 Tadcaster Road, York, YO24 1ES, at least one month before the proposed start date.
When you return from a career break, complete the return from career break notification form and send it with any evidence of updating, study or supervised practice. The policy sets out the full requirements.
To extend an approved career break, submit a career break extension form at least one month before your agreed return date.
